Right To Be Feminine

As a woman with breasts and what I have been told is a pretty face and half-decent legs – unless several men are unforgivable liars – I like to dress up. Not like a slut or anything, but I love to put a new dress on and mowsy around the town on a warm Summer day. It’s a rite of passage if you ask me. It’s something that should be enjoyable for anyone, no matter really what they look like.

And that used to be fine, that used to be allowed, until they started building near the river. Now, every single time I wear anything with any skin revealed, I get a wolf whistle and all kinds of childish shouting and stares. I wouldn’t normally mind but it’s the looks I’ve been getting. I wonder, honestly, if these men are locked up every night and then only allowed to see women at work.

As my friend Amanda from it support london pointed out the other day, I shouldn’t let it concern me. They are just morons. But the thing is that it does concern me. It makes me wonder if us women have come anywhere at all, or if, in fact, we are just in the same sexualised place we have always been. Okay, so I’m probably being a bit over-dramatic, but still, don’t you think I have a point? I mean…us girls aren’t toys. We should be able to take a wander around in the heat without being made to feel like prostitutes, should we not?
